SUMMARY:Carrie Ferguson and The Grumpytime Club
DESCRIPTION:Put on your dancing shoes and come sign and dance with us. The Grumpytime Club offers children and families welcoming and inclusive messages about accepting feelings\, celebrating differences\, and loving ourselves exactly as we are. \nAs a queer and gender queer artist\, Carrie learned that inner strength derives from knowing\, accepting\, and loving yourself. This event will take place on the Library lawn. Bring chairs\, water\, bug spray\, and blankets.  In case of rain\, it will be moved to the Town Hall Auditorium. \nFunded in part by The Belchertown Cultural Council\, a local agency funded by Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency\, and by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library and Library sponsors.

SUMMARY:Kinti Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, June 2 at 7pm\, the Clapp Memorial Library will be hosting the musical duo\, Kinti Ensemble. Kinti is named after the Quechua word for hummingbird\, qʼinti\, and\, like their namesake\, builds a bridge between North and South America. Inti Curi Cachimuel is a virtuosic Quichua indigenous musician and composer from Otavalo\, Ecuador with fluidity in a wide range of styles from traditional Andean to jazz. Cellist Rebecca Hartka has always concurrently explored a variety of styles and improvisation. With a strong impulse to connect across cultures\, Hartka was inspired to travel to Cuba and the Yucatán\, Mexico in 2019 and 2020\, where she collaborated with Mayan musicians in concert. The duo has been inspiring audiences since 2021 in a range of venues throughout New England with a unique sound rooted in the music of their Celtic and Andean indigenous ancestors\, as well as original looped and partially improvised compositions inspired by the natural world. This program is funded by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library.

SUMMARY:An Evening of Music and Stories with The Klines
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, March 31 at 7pm at the Clapp Memorial Library for an evening of music and stories with the Klines. Michael and Carrie Kline perform country harmony duets from coal mining songs to gospel\, family songs\, front porch music\, and songs of people in nature. Listeners may find themselves dancing a waltz to “Fiddler Jones\,” the song that celebrates the role of music and old-time fiddlers in our lives and our\ncommunities\, those who play for family and friends or local dances\, or those who play for no one at all. Since returning to the Valley after 26 years away\, mostly in West Virginia\, they have been performing with upright bass player Joe Blumenthal who has learned lots of coal mining music and songs of people and nature\, as well as some traditional songs. Jim Armenti backs up the band with his precise and high-powered mandolin. As folklorist-musicians the Klines weave songs and stories\, evoking the times that really matter\, time with family and friends\, spiritual times\, wrapped in a patchwork quilt of vivid imagery.

DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm \nOctober 30th\, November 6th\, 13th\, & 20th\n\nMindful Music with Mr. Ryan is a joyful\, heart-led program for children ages 6–11 that blends the magic of music\, movement\, mindfulness\, and mythology—all through the colorful lens of Bhakti\, the Indian practice of love and connection with self and others.\n\nEach session is an adventure in sound and story: kids join Mr. Ryan in lively call-and-response singing (Kirtan)\, listen to mythical tales of daring gods and wise goddesses\, and explore creative ways to move\, breathe\, play\, and reflect together. SUMMARY:Mindful Music with Mr. Ryan
Inspired by the rich traditions of Indian culture\, the class celebrates timeless themes like compassion\, courage\, curiosity\, and joy—all while helping kids feel more present\, expressive\, and connected.\n\nThere’s no rigid routine here—every session flows organically based on the group’s energy and the theme of the day. One week might feature the monkey-god Hanuman-ji leaping across oceans to save Sita\, the brave and noble queen; another might explore what it means to listen deeply or sing from the heart.\n\nAt its core\, Mindful Music with Mr. Ryan is about creating a warm\, welcoming space where children can sing and create from their hearts\, move their bodies freely\, and feel the simple magic of being together in the moment.\n\nRegistration is required\, sign up here: https://forms.gle/cBNbu3gWZn7ZT2U16.  Students under the age of 10 must have a caregiver who is 14 years old or older on the Library premises.  November 13th session will be in the Town Hall Auditorium.  Caregivers will not be in the same room where the classes will be held. Students who would like to ride a bus from a Belchertown public school to the Library should contact Jennifer\, jwhitehead@cwmars.org.\n\nFunded by the Friends of Clapp Memorial Library
