SUMMARY:Mindful Music with Mr. Ryan
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm \nOctober 30th\, November 6th\, 13th\, & 20th\n\nMindful Music with Mr. Ryan is a joyful\, heart-led program for children ages 6–11 that blends the magic of music\, movement\, mindfulness\, and mythology—all through the colorful lens of Bhakti\, the Indian practice of love and connection with self and others.\n\nEach session is an adventure in sound and story: kids join Mr. Ryan in lively call-and-response singing (Kirtan)\, listen to mythical tales of daring gods and wise goddesses\, and explore creative ways to move\, breathe\, play\, and reflect together. Inspired by the rich traditions of Indian culture\, the class celebrates timeless themes like compassion\, courage\, curiosity\, and joy—all while helping kids feel more present\, expressive\, and connected.\n\nThere’s no rigid routine here—every session flows organically based on the group’s energy and the theme of the day. One week might feature the monkey-god Hanuman-ji leaping across oceans to save Sita\, the brave and noble queen; another might explore what it means to listen deeply or sing from the heart.\n\nAt its core\, Mindful Music with Mr. Ryan is about creating a warm\, welcoming space where children can sing and create from their hearts\, move their bodies freely\, and feel the simple magic of being together in the moment.\n\nRegistration is required\, sign up here: https://forms.gle/cBNbu3gWZn7ZT2U16.  Students under the age of 10 must have a caregiver who is 14 years old or older on the Library premises.  November 13th session will be in the Town Hall Auditorium.  Caregivers will not be in the same room where the classes will be held. SUMMARY:Literary Monsters
DESCRIPTION:A unique perspective on the works of Edgar Allen Poe\, Mary Shelley\, Washington Irving\, Emily Dickinson and others is coming to the Clapp Memorial Library through the marriage of original music\, shadow puppetry and cinematography and special effects.\nThe group\, known as Shadow\, Sound\, Spectacle\, will be performing Literary Monsters on Saturday\, September 13 at 4pm. The performance is a collaborative project of different pieces led by Northampton-based singer-songwriter Jess Martin\, Boston puppeteer Amy West and musician/visual artist Abby Hanna\, who is also Northampton-based. The production seeks to reimagine iconic gothic figures like Frankenstein’s creature\, Poe’s raven and the Headless Horseman\, as symbols of resistance\, transformation and queer identity. The event is free and open to the public. This program is funded by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library.

DESCRIPTION:Come out to play with the Wendell Warriors drumming ensemble and their leader Jafar Manselle! Jafar and his performance group will first perform and discuss the history of the rhythms and their meanings as used for village celebrations. He will then demonstrate the basic hand placements used to create the tones and participants will get to practice making the sounds. DESCRIPTION:Aída O’Brien is an Americana and roots musician from Belchertown\, Massachusetts. Her music is a blend of old time\, indie rock\, blues and country. In June of 2020\, she released an EP called Girl in the Blue Dress\, chronicles the unfolding of her gender transition spanning seven years of heartfelt songwriting. She has performed at music festivals and well known venues like the Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance in Trumansburg\, NY\, Iron Horse Music Hall and Pearl Street Ballroom in Northampton\, MA. Aída has been teaching guitar and performing in Brooklyn\, NY since 2023 with artists such as Gemma Laurence\, Willis Mathewson and Port Ross. She graduated from Middlebury College with a B.A. in music in 2020. \nThis program is funded by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library.

SUMMARY:Ukes for Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, September 7 at 3pm\, the Clapp Memorial Library will host a free acoustic concert by the Belchertown duo\, Ukes for Ukraine. Terry Nagel (soprano ukulele) and Jimmy Burgoff (bass ukulele) will bring their street corner music\, and their little blue tip bucket\, indoors with an hour of favorite uke tunes and more stories about their adventures on the streets. Although the situation in Ukraine is grim\, the music of Ukes for Ukraine is anything but. Drawing from the best Tin Pan Alley music of the 20’s and 30’s\, classic string band tunes\, and occasional big band classics\, the duo presents cheerful and unique versions of familiar chestnuts\, and some obscure songs that deserve to be dusted off and brought back to life. \nSo far\, Ukes for Ukraine has raised over $3\,300\, a few dollars at a time playing on street corners and in outdoor markets. All the money has gone to Blagovist 2013\, an NGO providing food\, school supplies\, and clothing to displaced families and children in the Karkhiv region.
